Hi Everyone
We had a very productive core group meeting on the 8th and many things have come out of it.
Easter Sunday 8th April event on the Walls 12 – 4pm
- Marina will bring a table, or market stall if raining and the Co-op community group will join us. We will put up the Transition banner, have leaflets and collect scraps of wool to bring along to get people and children making pom poms and Easter chicks. The Co-op lost skills group will be knitting, crocheting and sewing and will share their skills with the passers by. We would love EVERYONE to bake “30 mile” cakes and we will sell them to raise some money for Transition Stour valley. If we have the recipes for the cakes and where the ingredients were sourced then we can put it on the website and get people to go and look them up. Also, to publicise the community train station garden, we will be making paper flower pots and sowing some seeds – pumpkin and squash and sunflowers to be planted later in the garden. The Co-op are donating packets of wildflower seeds, herbs and some vegetables to give away on the day. We are hoping to have a bike powered laptop film or something similar working on the day. To tie in with this it would be good to have information about energy and energy saving. Celia can we have any information about your project and the eco assessing/thermal imaging? And Nigel some leaflets from you? A simple leaflet is going to be designed and printed to list our contact details, what we are trying to do, information about the community garden, the lost skills, the Landshare project, the Dedham vale food hub, the 30;30 challenge for this autumn and the bake off. Anyone happy to print some of these please let us know.Jane at Sudbury Transition also used these events to question people what they would like from the transition group. Marina will ask for a copy and see if she can make one for us.
Anyone happy to help with this event please email. It can be a donation of cakes, wool or coming along on the day.
Bake off We have been having some more thoughts on the Transition Bake Off and have decided to hold it at the Venture Centre in Lawford. We will be inviting Transition members and the public along to bake a cake using locally sourced and fair trade products. The hire of the kitchen is £6.00 per hour and so this event will cost £30 for 5 hours. This is going to be paid for by The Manningtree Community Group from money they have raised with the lost skills group. Any money we raise from the cake sale at the Easter event can also be added. We still need to come up with a date so if anyone who would like to take part has a preference please let us know.
Community garden Lots of work has been done in clearing the site and many thanks to
all who came along and helped. The tools are coming on the 23rd, and there will be a presentation by the Co-op on Friday 30th March at 11am. Barry is designing the garden and wants hear from the members about what theyd like to see in it or what it could offer to the community. The presentation day would be a good opportunity to come along and talk about this.
Dedham Vale Food hub This is going to go ahead and probably be launch in September when all the local food groups are launching the 30;30 challenge.
30;30 challenge -We thought this could be from the 21st September – 21st October and be great to team up with Ipswich and Woodbridge and others across the region. Marina had offered to convene a food group meeting for the regional groups so she thought this could be used to pull this event together.
Website This needs a bit of an update now that we are doing so well with events , groups and news and it is now very out of date. Can we all have a look at it and think of suggestions for next meeting.
This will be on Thursday 10th May. We will agree a venue at a later date.
Best
Wishes
