Projects

What projects are we involved in in the area?

Station Garden

The Station Garden is just outside of the Manningtree Station front entrance. It was funded by the Cooperative. Work commenced in early 2012 clearing brambles and preparing the site.  The Station Garden is being designed on Permacultural principles by Barry with feedback from the local community. Come and join the garden group to make this a special community space for Manningtree.

Energy

Nigel and Claudette head up the the energy contingent of the Transition Stour Valley group and are responsible for looking at the various technologies available which can help everyone reduce their carbon footprint. This work is carried out through their electrical contracting company day2day electricals

Day2Day Electricals organised an Energy Walk within Manningtree looking at working examples of many different types of renewable energy and energy saving techniques. The group is currently looking into the possibility of installing Solar Photovoltaics on a local school and funding this through investments from the local community. Follow our blog for updates. Nigel is currently looking at hosting a local event looking at what small measures we can all do to reduce our energy consumption during the coldest and darkest months of the year. This event is still in its infancy, follow our blog for updates

Local Food

There are lots of activities taking place around food in the area. A large local food project aimed at supplying the whole food basket to local people is due to be started in September 2012. This involves about 5 local farmers, food processors, and cooks. You can find out more about this by googling Dedham Vale Food Hub. Many local transition people have allotments, and the Apricot Centre is a local organic fruit farm dedicated to sustainable living activities.
